Frequently Asked Questions
We answer some of your most common enquiries here
What is Pilates?
Pilates is an innovative and safe system of mind-body exercise using a floor mat or a variety of equipment – most commonly used are the Pilates reformers, Cadillac, Chair, etc. It evolved from the principles of Joseph Pilates and can dramatically transform the way your body looks, feels and performs. Pilates builds strength without excess bulk, capable of creating a sleek, toned body with slender thighs and a flat abdomen.
It is a safe, sensible exercise system that will help you look and feel your very best. It teaches body awareness, good posture and easy, graceful movement. Pilates also improves flexibility, agility and economy of motion. It can even help alleviate back pain.

Some of the benefits of a regular Gyrotonic practice include a healthier, more supple spine, increased range of motion, greater joint stability, improved agility and athletic performance and a deep internal strength. What is GYROKINESIS®?
The GYROKINESIS® Method is a movement method that addresses the entire body, opening energy pathways, stimulating the nervous system, increasing range of motion, and creating functional strength through rhythmic, flowing movement sequences. It is an original and unique method, which coordinates movement, breath and mental focus.
The GYROKINESIS® Method is practiced on a mat and chair, without equipment. Without the feedback and guidance of equipment, participants in a GYROKINESIS® class are more dependent on their own proprioception to explore movement sequences.

I have an injury, can I still exercise?
This will largely depend on how extensive your injury is. Our team of instructors and physiotherapists can access your injury and plan the best course of rehabilitation and recovery.
I am pregnant, or planning to conceive. Can I take Pilates or GYROTONIC® classes?
Exercise is generally good for the body, even prior to, or during pregnancy. However, intentions to exercise should be communicated to your obstetrician so that you mitigate any complications, as everyone’s body is different.
The rule of thumb is always to understand your body, and not to push it too far.
If you are pregnant, you are still welcomed to partake in Pilates or GYROTONIC® group classes provided that your obstetrician is informed and is agreeable. Please inform our instructors as well, so that we know to modify exercises for you if necessary. Even better, try our prenatal reformer Pilates classes as those will aim towards supporting your pregnancy specifically.
What is physiotherapy? How is it different from a massage? WIP
Physiotherapy is necessary if you are rehabilitating muscles or joint function – either from an injury, certain health conditions, or from other causes. Physiotherapists are trained professionals to help you manage pain, balance, mobility, or joint function.
There are many different types of massages available in the market, and generally they are to help alleviate soreness or muscle tightness.
